Towards a winning economy

Current facts – How to reduce poverty at home.

The report “The unveiling of the poverty reduction plan” released on March 5, 2020, shows that in 2018, the poverty rate in New Brunswick was 7.9%, or approximately 58,000 people. Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard said, “It's important that we all work together to reduce poverty and create a province where everyone can participate fully ".

A New Beginning

Our program has precisely the same objective… to offer this second chance to people who have achieved a certain emotional stability and seem sufficiently motivated and committed to changing their life situation. We are convinced that these people, with the assistance of our agency, will regain their self-esteem, giving those who are able to persevere, a chance to get out of this predicament and dare to believe that there is hope for getting and keeping a decent job.

Consult the website below which explains the project in detail:

Positive spin-offs resulting from the project.

  • Allow Second Chance Workshop to add educational programs that will be adapted to the needs of its students.

  • This program goes a long way towards improving the New Brunswick economy.

  • This new program will create new jobs for Second Chance Workshop.

  • This operating model can be replicated in other cities in our province.

  • The presence of Enviro Plus allows a larger percentage of our communities to donate recyclable material; which makes them more aware of taking an active part in helping the environment.

  • Improvement in attitudes is visible in trainees who complete the program. They are more confident and have better self-esteem, even if they did not find a job at the end of the program.

Economic benefit:

Once reintegrated into the labor market, graduate trainees will receive a salary and be on their way to independence. As a result, for each individual who finds a job, the New Brunswick government saves between $8,031 and $21,657 (Figures obtained for the year 2022) ..which could translate to annual savings of over $500,000 for the Provincial Government.
